SpeakNow helps you practise English pronunciation. It is built so that your voice and your practice data stay on your phone.
Your voice
- The microphone is used only while you are reading a line or a text.
- Your speech is understood by your phone itself, without going through the internet. SpeakNow receives the words that were recognised, never the sound.
- With the optional advanced analysis, SpeakNow listens to the sound itself, in the phone’s memory only. Your last attempt is kept in memory so you can play it back, and it is erased as soon as you read the next line or leave the screen.
- No recording is ever saved or sent anywhere.
What is kept on your phone
Your scores, statistics about English sounds, the texts you add and your settings. This information never leaves your phone unless you export it yourself (Settings → Export my data). It is not included in cloud backups or phone-to-phone transfers. You can delete everything at any time (Settings → Delete everything).
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, SpeakNow asks for permission to show notifications and plans one reminder per day on your phone. It is skipped on days you have already practised. You can turn it off at any time.
Internet
SpeakNow uses the internet only to download content you choose, such as natural voices, texts and the advanced analysis, and to see which content is available. These files are hosted by GitHub (GitHub, Inc.), which, like any website, sees the address of the connection and the file requested. SpeakNow sends no name, account, identifier or personal information. GitHub’s privacy statement: docs.github.com.
What SpeakNow does not do
No account, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, no sale or sharing of data, and no access to your contacts, location or files.
Children
SpeakNow is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal data from anyone.
